Life’s A Beach – ‘Han-Gyaku-Sei Million Arthur’ Episode 6 Review

What’s the show? Han-Gyaku-Sei Million Arthur, Episode 6.

So how’s this episode? I don’t know if you recall at all but I mentioned in the last episode review how I was worried I might be “falling out of love” with this show, what with its propensity for putting Kakka Arthur (a character I’m not fond of) front and center in 2 out of the 5 episodes that had been aired up to that point. So it’s with great joy that I can report that ‘Million Arthur’ has won me back over…

…Oh god, I can only imagine what lewdness the show has produ– It’s a swimsuit episode! Featuring only the female cast of the show! I salute thee!

Yeah, could you salute with your pants on, please? Now who’s being lewd!

Thank you Dancho! Thank you for your one track mind!

Wait, you said “swimsuit episode”? Not beach or pool? I mean ~technically~ it could take be considered both or either since it takes place on an indoor pool resort (hilariously located on an actual beach) but know there’s a deliberate reason I say “swimsuit episode”. Not only is that the ~visual~ focus of the episode with enough bare skin on display to last a years worth of beach episodes but it’s also the plot of the episode as someone is snatching women’s swimsuits and it’s up to the girls to uncover the culprit behind these thieveries!

Uh-huh… so what’s the point of this episode then? What do you mean, “what’s the point?” I don’t understand the question.

I love the absurdity of an indoor pool resort on a beach!

I mean is this just pointless fan-service or is there a narrative purpose to it all? Well the bikini thief is possession of an ‘Excalibur’ that as it turns out is in the form of a magical fishing rod which he uses to snag the swimwear. So you know, in line with the rest of the episodes where the goal is to stop an “evil” Arthur from disrupting the peace of this world. But make no mistake this is wholly a comedic episode, from the villains motivations to being ‘fishing down a star to give to his dying brother as his last wish’ only to fish a bikini top instead, which ends up curing his brothers illness anyway and leads his brother to become an even more depraved pervert than him. Then of course there’s Dancho’s reactions to seeing the girls in swimsuits (especially Yamaneko who looks flawless in her white one-piece) as well as her reaction to Renkin stepping into be her ‘hand bra’ when her own is stolen.

Never underestimate the power of swimwear.

Well, I don’t doubt that you “enjoyed” this episode, but I’m having a hard time appreciating your point of view is not just motivated by looking at attractive anime girls in skimpy clothing? Where have you been? That’s practically 90% of what I do.

Right. Fair point. So overall thoughts on the episode? Would I call this a ‘return to form’? Not really as the show’s never really been ~off~ form, it’s just that last week wasn’t as enjoyable as it had been previously. Was this the funniest episode so far? No, but it still had plenty of laughs. Is it my favourite episode so far? Yes. Absolutely yes. I know what I like and I loved this and I’m not going to apologise for that!

Yamaneko in her white one-piece bikini. God tier swimsuit!

  1. Most of the time they sacrifice the story for a swimsuit episode, but this show barely has any story anyway, so they were able to fit it in. I kind of wish they’d give us a better idea of how they’re doing with the million Arthurs (like halfway done? 1/8 done? Barely over 1/100th done?) because they keep saying things like “finishing up and going home” but if they’re not making any progress, they’ll never go home and the focus of the show should change a little.
