Truths and Allies – ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime’ Episode 11 Review

What’s the show? That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, Episode 11.

So how’s this episode? You know, I was really enjoying this episode, what with all the casual banter between all the characters in the goblin town, just good ol’ fashioned fun times for everyone. And then the damned lizard people had to show up and ~ruin~ everything! (Sight hyperbole…)

No.

Well before we jump the gun and get to the negative let’s focus on the positives first! I didn’t realise how much I missed having constant female characters in this show, ones with enthusiasm and excitement and distinct personalities. Shuna and Shion are a bright light shining down upon this show and I can’t believe we went as many episodes as we did without them. Especially best girl Shion who has become Rimuru’s secretary and personal bodyguard which basically means she’s a main character now and I couldn’t be happier!

Don’t pull so hard! *moaning sound*

But weren’t you complaining about her character re-design from last episode when she “evolved”? Right, I probably shouldn’t be calling them ogres anymore since they’re technically Kijin now. Oh and that? Whatever I don’t care, it’s her personality that shines not just her ~nice oppai~.

Shion b(r)e(a)st girl.

Uh-huh, well lest you devolve into talking about breasts too much I’ll get you to move on to what about the episode you didn’t like… The whole shtick with these particular lizard men sucking up to Gabil the son of the leader of the lizard men just absolutely falls flat. They feel like they’re out of a Saturday morning cartoon… a western Saturday morning cartoon not an anime! The one bright spot was when they come to our goblin town to force them all to join their war against the orcs and we’re all (probably) expecting either Rimuru or the ogr–sorry the kaijin to beat up this scrawny lizard but instead they send out the runt of the litter Gobta to take him on. And we wins! It was such a great moment of redemption for the little guy who’s been something of a whipping boy for Rimuru, which while fun kinda felt like it needed to stop otherwise it could have started to look like bullying.

I love derpy crayon art in anime.

So with their leader defeated are the lizard men done with as a plot point? Sadly no. They promise they’ll be back as they carry their leader away, running off with their tails between their legs. I’d rather they just focus on the characters we have rather than throwing in more–and one’s that feel out of place in the show anyway but there’s not much you can do about that. Things got back on track by the end though as the goblins and kaijin and Rimuru have a meeting, and I loved the whole ~atmosphere~ around this meeting, this whole community that he’s managed to set up. Also we are introduced to a dryad who interrupts their meeting to implore Rimuru to defeat the orc lord who is commanding an army of 200,000 orcs. So the stakes are suitably high, even though I imagine if Rimuru really tried he could probably wipe them all out on his own…

Cute dryad. I approve.

So it sounds like a lot happens in this episode? Kind of, like I mentioned earlier there’s a lot of banter and shenanigans between characters which I absolutely loved but this more a ‘setting the stage’ type episode as pieces are put-together for the inevitable showdown. It’s all very exciting and I’m looking forward to it–let’s just hope we can make good use of these lizard men characters, either that or feed them to the orcs.

Now here’s a character redesign I can get into! Can we have a spin-off series called ‘Yakuza Ogres’?
