What’s the show? Han-Gyaku-Sei Million Arthur, Episode 2.
So how’s this episode? You know how I spent a lot of the review for Episode 1 comparing this show to ‘Last Period’? Well I was wrong… okay, not wrong but rather I found a better comparison… although it’s less the show I’m comparing it to and moreso that I’ve found a comparison for the main character.
Right, well let’s hear it. So ‘Dancho’ our occasionally air-headed protagonist with a penchant for embarrassing herself and with an undeniable perverted streak. She’s totally like Kazuma from KonoSuba! Also she’s absolutely like Aqua from KonoSuba! And there’s also a bit of Darkness from KonoSuba too!
Uh-huh… anyone else from that show she’s like? Not yet, but I totally could see her invoking some Megumin style rage later on!
Great, so now that’s out of the way, how’s this episode? It’s not as laugh-out-loud funny as the first but it’s another top notch effort. Basically this episode focuses on Renkin Arthur the loli with the giant hammer and I’m so glad they’re already beginning to flesh out these characters’ backstories–even if at one at a time means we’ll be half way-through the season before we’re done. But that doesn’t mean the action or ‘hunting down of Arthur’s and Excalibur’s’ takes a back seat this episode, we get a very “interesting” villain of the week in this episode. Why’s he so interesting? Well because this ‘Arthur’ has his Excalibur not in the form of a sword but in the form of a pair of magical glasses!
Wait, the sword are glasses? It makes sense, with the innumerable number of parallel universes that all these ‘Arthur’s’ come from that ‘Excalibur’ would inevitably find different forms. Besides not only do the glasses have the offensive capability to fire lasers, but they also have the ability to see through people’s clothing!
Gives a double meaning to “offensive capabilities”… but why can it do that specifically? Because this is an anime, shut up. Besides, it can also be used to look through walls and even right through skin to see the bones underneath, but this particular Arthur is a bit of a pervert and lolicon–hence why he uses them to ~observe~ what’s underneath Renkin’s clothes.
And I hope this pervert gets what’s coming to him?! Assuredly, the captured Renkin is rescued by Dancho and they lay the smack down on him!
Cool, so overall thoughts on the episode? It’s heaps of fun, with a lot of great character moments–and even though it’s more focused on Dancho and Renkin (as well as Renkin’s fairy companion Bodach)–there’s still that great ensemble vibe. It was also interesting to learn some more information about the rules of the world they are in like only the original owner of a ‘Excalibur’ can use it (much to Dancho’s dismay as she tries to use the x-ray glasses on Yamaneko!) There’s a lot of funny quotes and moments, it looks good, it sounds good, the stuff after the end-credits is suitably nonsensical, it’s just an all-round fun time!
