What’s the show? Senran Kagura: Shinovi Master, Episode 3.
So how’s this episode? You know I was wondering… as I was staring at the blank computer screen, who reads these reviews? Not my episodic anime reviews in general but rather specifically these Senran Kagura reviews.
People who are watching the show who want affirmation or dissenting viewpoints on the show? Dedicated readers who find your nonsense entertaining? I think that’s probably the bulk of the readership… Ah, but you’re forgetting a third type…
I am? What’s that then? Perverts!
Oh right, how could I forget, I work with one every day… why the sudden introspection into your readerships on this particular show? I generally don’t tailor my readership towards any given demographic—especially in episodic reviews, these are just stream of consciousness conversations after all. But maybe I should start, at least with this show, catering the review to the person clicking it after a Google search.
Why do I feel like this is just an excuse to put more uncensored pictures of anime nipples in your review? What are you talking about, of course not… (Dang it I think he’s on to me!)
Let’s just review as normal for the time being, yeah? Fine.
So what happens in this episode? Asuka has gone emo and has lost her faith in the value of justice, we get a brief but notable appearance of Kagura—for whom the show is named, a very important character but it’s little more than just an introduction. The rest of the episode is spent at a hot springs!
Hot springs already, huh? This show sure knows its target audience… While not quite as godly as the previous episode, the fan-service on display here is still pretty damn great. I like this ratio of the fan service scenes taking up roughly half the episode—that seems like the right amount.
Spoken like a true pervert. Anything else of note happen that’s ~not~ nudity related? Kind of, Asuka and Homura have a pretty awesome fight on the roof of the hot springs; even some blood gets spilled as Homura sustains a nasty injury to her arm.
Why did you say “kind of” when I said “not nudity related”? Clothing damage—a big part of the game—means even during a brutal fight there’s still the (high) chance of nudity, as is the case here.
Ah… can’t even have a fight sequence without showing some skin? You people really have short attention spans for anything ~not~ fan service related, huh? What do you mean “you people”?
Perverts. Oh right. Yeah…
So thoughts on the episode overall? Still loving the show, still don’t care if its obviously pandering to its target audience, all the characters are great, its fun and risqué and comedic when it needs to be but can pull off being dark and brooding and serious too.
